Thrift House: Treat Jar

Cost: Free

My mom decided that she didn't like cork anymore and gave this to me. I can't remember if this is the one she got at a thrift store for $1 or if she's had it for a really long time but either way I love it. We leave it in the hallway, on the book shelf for Ollie. He gets a treat most of the time when he comes inside (he really likes to stay outside and we have to sort of bribe him to come inside. Yes, not the best training technique I'm sure but it's working for now!)

Thrift House: Exerciser

Cost: $100

I hate to go to the gym. When I saw hate I mean I don't even pretend that I should go. I am totally resigned to the fact that it's just not going to happen. So I was looking for something for in the house. Something that gave me a quick work out but wasn't that big. I saw this at a thrift store and gave it a try, you know, to see how well it worked and wow, it's exactly what I wanted and more! I saw almost the exact machine in Costco for $800. I was pretty excited when I saw that. I love a deal!

Thrift House: Candle Towers

Cost: $2.50 each

Another purchase where I didn't really need it or know where to put them but I had to have them. Right now they are in the creative room on Marshall's keyboard table. I love just looking at them.

Thrift House: Organizer

Cost: $5

I didn't need it at the time but I loved it and bought it anyways. A couple of months later the one that I had broke beyond repair so it was perfect! I just went into the storage room and got this out. It worked out really well in the end because with a house I need more space for different types of filing (I never thought I would be saying such a boring sentence but it's true!)

Thrift House: Bathroom Ladies

Cost: $2

I found these over five years ago and at the time I didn't know where to put them up and I sort of wasn't even comfortable putting them up (I cared too much what other people thought) but now I love the female form and I love being a woman so they are proudly up in the bathroom.

Thrift House: Living Room Lamp

Cost: Free

My sister was moving to Montreal and was getting rid of all sorts of things and give this wonderful lamp to me. I love this lamp. It's huge and sometimes in the way, but it's just so cool and it gives off such a warm light. I'm going to always try to find a home for it where ever I live.

Thrift House: Woven Chair

Cost: Free

I was at my mom's condo and there's a little area where people leave furniture outside for other people to take. I always check there when I am there because I've gotten some amazing stuff and this time was the same. I found this chair! It needs a little touch up paint but other then that's it's in good shape.

The pillow? I bought it and two others for $5 each at a thrift store. They're for the patio but they have a home in the living room during the winter.

Thrift House: Mini End Table

Cost: $3

I wasn't really looking for a table but I was on a around the country thrift trip with my mom and I saw this little pretty table and had to have it. And at $3 it was great! It looks great with my green couch too!

Thrift House: Green Vase

Cost: Free

I found this vase on free day (a weekend twice a year-spring and fall- where people in Winnipeg put all the things they don't want out of the curb and others can come and pick up whatever they want. I love these weekends!) last year. I don't love the color but it does the job as the corner decor in the entrance. I think I might paint it silver yet, but it's doing the job for now.

Thrift House: Hallway Book Shelf

Cost: Free

I was walking home and I saw this book shelf in the back lane and had to take it. I walked it up three flights of stairs (I'm small, it was pretty awkward) but it was worth it. It's in the hall right now and it's the perfect size for that space. Plus all the books on the bottom shelf I got at a community garage sale where they were trying to get rid of all the left overs. I got a huge box of things (including at least 20 more books) for $1!

Thrift House: Painting

Cost: Free

When I lived in Mexico I was leaving a flee market and looked down at the cobble store street and saw drawings and paintings scattered around. I couldn't seem to find the owner so I took them home. I really like this one and it's up in the kitchen. It's in a frame that I think was either given to me or I bought at a dollar store for $1. Either way it's by far the cheapest art I have in the house!

Thrift House: CookBooks & Shelf

Cost: Free

My mom bought this at a thrift store a while ago and decided she didn't want it anymore so she gave it to me! I think it might have been one of the many house warming gifts or "I thought you might like this for your new house" gifts my mom brought over.

And the cookbooks? Most of those I got from stacks of books people left in my mom's apartment lobby with "free" on them and a few others were found in a box on the side of the road (I guess someone lost it while moving?). All in all I didn't spend any money on any of the cookbook (at least three of them were gifts).

Thrift House: Mini Grader

Cost: 50 cents

I was baking the other day and needed to do some lemon rind and only had a normal size grader. It still worked ok but the cookies had some very distinct lemon flavor in only a couple of the cookies, ha ha. When I was out thrifting with my mom a few days later and I was very happy to find this little guy! It will be perfect for all the other recipe I still need to try with different citrus ride in them for my Baking My Way project! I love how things work out like that!

Thrift House: Wine Pitcher

Cost: $3

Marshall and I started making our own wine so when I saw this I just had to have it. It's perfect for dinner parties and just for having has a decor piece. Or even flowers! I am yet to use it but I love it! I've had to clean the silver already once but a little Ketchup and it's sparkly new all over again!

Thrift House: Liquor Table

Cost: 25 cents

I LOVE this little table. I originally bought it as a side table for in my living room, and it fit perfectly in the space that was left between the wall and my giant couch but then we started collecting the mixings for drinks and it found a new home again in the dining room. I'm thinking I'm going to spray paint the brass silver but for now this is how it looks. Not bad hey?

My sister and I decided to do the Thrift House post together because we both love a good deal and are always showing each other what we've each found, so what better then to blog about it right?

I love my water bottle

I finally made a carrier for my water bottle. It's glass, and pretty heavy when it's full and so often when I'm leaving the house my hands are all full and I get so close to dropping it so a "case" was very needed.

I (still) don't have a sewing machine so I took the time and did it all by hand. It took me forever (I got through a lot of House episodes!) but I really love it. I made it from a table center clothe my mom gave me. It was more the size of a napkin so I didn't really know what I was going to do with it but I just loved the pattern so I was really happy to be able to find a use for it.

Thrift House: Candle Holder

Cost: $1

I know it doesn't look like much but I love it. It's so pretty, and detailed and it reminds me of my aunt's vintage bowl so I had to get it. And when a candle is lit it's just so pretty!

Thrift House: Vintage Couch

Cost: $100

I bought this house when I had my first apartment. I really had no place for it, and it didn't fit with any of my other decor but I just loved it and had to have it. It was in perfect condition and for $100 I couldn't not buy it!

Thrift House: Lamp

Cost: Free

I was parking my car in the garage when I saw this lamp, and it's sister in the back lane. I brought them in and took a look. They both work and are in great condition. This one is in my creative room on my desk and the other is in storage in the basement waiting for me to find a new home for it.

Thrift House

I decided that I am going to start taking pictures of all the great things I either get for free or I find thrifting. I mean I love a good deal so why not? I love remember what I've all found too so this series is almost more for me then for you! Ha ha, I love to document things and remember what's what. I think the type of blogs like my blog should first and for most always been for the author first. I mean people don't usually go back to read your old stuff so really it should be for you right? For me blogging is more to collect all the things I love and put them in one spot! And it's so organized and pretty too!

Anyways, back on track: I started by going around my house and taking pictures of everything that I could remember that I got for free or bought used. I was excited to see how much I really did get that way! I love finding a new life for thing in my house!

I thought first I would post some really great upcycling and thrifting videos but stay tuned, next week starts all the thrift house fun!

I don't buy clothes at the thrift store as much as I used to but I thought this video would be good for those of you that do or want to start! It's a little long but she's got some gone tips. Also she has a really great blog with lots of thifting help if you need!
