Quilting Help

So as I'm moving along in preparation to start my quilt (still need LOTS of fabric!) I'm gathering all sorts of tips and help along the way. I found this post originally on Total Tutorials but when to where it really came from and got all the details. Check out some of the photos, she's even gone so far as to have her nails done to do up this post. I think it's great, totally helpful for when I get to actually start sewing!

Hair: A Different Sort of Braid

Oh I love this! Again another one where I wish my hair was long enough to be able to do this (and that I even knew how to in the first place!)

DYI: Old Photo Frame to New Tray

Isn't this pretty? All she did was painted an old metal photo frame white, got some cool paper to put in side (behind the glass) and there you go! On Going Home to Roost she has a whole post all about her back porch redo, it's really cool! Check it out. But I just thought I would share this with you. As soon as I find a good place for one I'd totally going to do this!

DYI: Book Ring Holder

Another great DYI from Ruffled. I know it's sort of bad to copy from other blogs but I just love sharing what I find and all the credit is for sure theirs on all their wonderful posts! I love sharing and supporting other blogs by "re-posting". Check out their post with all the wonderful How To details.

I think I might do this if I need to host another shower sometime!
What could you do this project for? Maybe even a fancy way to give a gift of jewelry?
This looks like so much fun! Have a wonderfully creative day!

DYI: Fabric Wedding Banner

So I saw these on Offbeat Bride and I want them. I don't get excited often about DYI project or posts because well at one point or another I've tried them all in some form or another (I was a serious craftier growing up!) and I'm DYIed out at the moment but this one, this one is different! So to give you a little taste here are a couple of the photos!
I'm either going to take on this fun little project or request it as a gift from my sister, who by now has a serious stock of awesome fabrics! (there's always a good reason to give right? I love you Crystal). But either way I think I'd want my pieces at least 9'' long by 5''-6'' wide. I think any smaller and it would look silly using it in my backyard or living room (no more small things for a small apartment!! New house here I come!)
I think I would switch up the red bias tape for maybe a light sage green, but the red is pretty cool. Either way I love all the floral patterns, they make me happy! (As long as I pick ones that aren't too seasonal so I can use this throughout the year...so much to think about!)
For the full and very detailed DYI check out the post!

What's your new DYI project you're taking on? Or want to?

All India Radio Video

I saw this video on my sister's blog a while ago and I just love it!

They use a animation technique, where a team of people paint in the air with glow sticks, frame after frame to create entire sequences of animation! I had never seen this before, or at least didn't know how it was done if I did. I hope you like it as much as me!

Your Hand Shake

When I shake people's hands I often get comments like "You must be a business women" or "Wow, strong hand shake". A few years ago I heard about how important your hand shake is so even since then I've really be making an effort to have some personality in my hand shake. There's nothing worse then a limp hand shake. So here's another great email from Daily Worth on just that!

Happy reading!

Want to land that job? Start with the right handshake—it’s one of the first things a job interviewer will notice, and could set you up for success versus a scoot back to square one.

Researchers at University of Manchester in England

studied what makes a great—and not-so-great shake.

Here’s what they uncovered:

Great shakes

  1. Give a firm—but not too firm—squeeze using your right hand.
  2. Offer about three shakes using a medium level of vigor.
  3. Shake no longer than three seconds.
  4. Make sure your palms are cool and dry.
  5. Accompany the handshake with these actions: eye contact, a warm smile, and an appropriate verbal statement, such as your full name and, “Nice to meet you.”

“A soft handshake can indicate insecurity, whilst a quick-to-let-go handshake can suggest arrogance," added Dr. Geoffrey Beattie, a researcher on the study.

Don't sweat it
What are the biggest handshake “don’ts”?

  1. Sweaty palms
  2. Loose grip or limp wrist
  3. Gripping too hard
  4. Not making eye contact
  5. Shaking too vigorously
It's worth brushing up on your handiwork: 56% of people say they’ve been the recipient of an unpleasant handshake within the last month. Don't let a bum shake ruin your job prospects.

For My Dog

So I wrote this post up a while ago, thinking I'll wait a bit to post it no big deal but then I found our dog the next week! I thought of changing out the whole post to make it fit in present tense, but I thought it would be sort of fun to just post what I wrote up. Ya, maybe laziness has a little to do with it, but really, isn't it sort of fun to look back on what you wrote before you knew what really was going to happen? It sort of just reminds me of how little I can plan or predict ahead of time. So here's the post, just the way I wrote it. Enjoy!

I saw this great post on Love and Happiness with all this wonderful dog stuff and it got me thinking on how I should do a post on the stuff I want for my dog, or I should say my future dog.
I'm in the process of searching for the perfect dog for us. It would be easy if I was into the whole puppy thing and just going to a pet store and picking one out but I want to adopt a dog. There are so many dogs out there that need a home because someone bought them on a whim, or thought they were cute when they were a puppy but didn't want the commitment (I know there are more serious reasons like divorce and death that leaves dogs without homes) so I want to help out a dog like that, and I don't want to support the crazy prices that pet stores have on pets that are mass produced like toys.

Anyways, on to lighter and happier things...Dog accessories and houses!

I don't have a huge back yard in my new house and my dog will for sure be an indoor dog but I still think this little house is the best!
And of course a good bandanna is always a must for a cute little dog and this one makes me want to buy it now, even without the dog...just to have it in the mean time!
Oh I'm all about multi-functional furniture and I love this idea!
Oh and I'd have to get a collar like this! So cute! It always amazes me what people can make with their own hands out of leather.
I'm leaning toward a Chinese Cheston if I can convince my husband so I would for sure need lots of sweater for him, and this one is so awesome!
Man, I want to eat these myself! If my dog is going to me anything like me it's going to LOVE chocolate so these are a great alternative! Yum!
OH how could I not get this too? So cute!!

So now that I know what sort of dog accessories I'm getting what sort of dog do you think I should get? Suggestions are totally welcome!
