Cooking Tip: Yeast Substitution

I was baking and was sure I had yeast but none, I didn't. I was already too far into it to go back so I was very happy when I found a substitute and that it worked

Prep Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 2 minutes

Ingredients:
Baking soda
Lemon juice

Preparation:

Add all ingredients according to the recipe

Then, add in equal parts baking soda and lemon juice to equal the amount of yeast called for in the recipe

  1. That is very interesting...did you like how the substitution worked? I work with yeast quite a bit and I hate it when I get started only to realize I don't have enough yeast!

  3. No problem! Ya, it was a life saver for me, and yes, i loved how it turned out, even better then if i had used yeast! it had a better flavor too and was totally puffy just the way it would have been with yeast. I'm not sure how it would work in bread, but for other baking i'm sure it works great (i made a pie like dessert)
